NIKE AIR SHIP 1984
AIR SHIP 1984
Before the Air Jordan 1 High, came the Air Ship designed by Bruce Kilgore which released in 1984. This was the first basketball shoe worn by Michael Jordan as an NBA professional. Air Ships became controversial after the NBA set a letter to Nike in February of 1985 informing the company that Jordan’s colourful shoes were a violation of the league’s uniformity of uniform clause. Nike responded by creating an infamous ad campaign around Jordan’s ‘banned’ shoes, which is where the Air Jordan 1 was born.
