THE EDIT LDN INTERVIEWS (RACHEL FOXX)

A singer-songwriter from Hackney, Rachel has made a name for herself having already racked up 10 million streams across her back catalogue, a sold out show in Camden Assembly and received high profile support from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Sir Elton John and Diplo.

Here she speaks to The Edit LDN London. For those that don’t know you, can you give our readers a little introduction to the girl behind the music?

Singer, songwriter, girl from Hackney, East London… I never know how to answer this question haha

For those aspiring artists amongst our readers, how did it all begin for you and when was your big break?

I was always kind of singing here and there but it all started when I put my first two songs on Soundcloud. One day I woke up and I had thousands of listens because my music was played on this radio station in LA...and then I think my career really changed when I performed on COLORS.

In terms of your music, how do you describe your style and who are your biggest influences?

I describe my music as soul/ R&B with hip hop and jazz influences. My music is kind of a fusion of my life and influences. Artists I am mostly influenced by would be Erykah Badu, Donell Jones, Jon B and Jill Scott. You have been supported by the likes of Joey Bada$$, Little Dragon, Kelis and Lauryn Hill. What can you tell us about these experiences and were there any moments that stood out to you?

Epic. When I performed with Little Dragon it was my first international festival and my best friend came with me and my team - it was so surreal, I think the first time is the time you always remember.

Talking Kelis & Lauryn Hill – how was it meeting such icons and did they give you any advice you could pass on to our readers?

Kelis was amazing - the whole evening was extremely special. I had always said one of my goals in my career was to perform at the world famous Jazz cafe and when I finally got to it was alongside a proper icon. As for Ms Lauryn Hill, she was just so special and when I met her she really embraced me. She hugged me and my hair got stuck in her outfit and it was just a moment.

You’ve cited influences in your music from Toni Braxton to Erykah Badu. If you could make an album with only one person, who would it be and why?

Probably Erykah, more for the energy she possesses.

Talking Fashion, how do you describe your own personal style?

I’m pretty lazy with my style, I like being comfortable, clean, relaxed. I like baggy stuff - I still wear skimpy stuff sometimes but my favourite thing has to be tracksuits. I love love love sneakers like I am a moron and my favourite shoe is the Air Force 1.Here’s the big question, if you could only pick one, would you go for Jordan’s or Yeezy’s?

Jordans.

If we gave you £1,000 to spend on www.theeditmanlondon.com what would you buy and why?

I would probably finish my coins on the Off White collab with Nike and Supreme of course.

If you could only wear one pair of Nike’s for the rest of the year, which ones would you pick and why?

EVERYONE knows the answer to this lmao. Just go on my Instagram.Back to music - you recently released a new single called Progress. What can you tell us about that song?

Progress is about looking forward in life, working on your progress, building yourself up and forgetting about the past. Progress is a journey it’s not overnight. I talk about unhealthy obsessions and eradicating that. Watch the video here.

Looking forward, what projects are you working on now and what new music can we expect to hear from you in the future?

I’ve been sitting on tunes since forever. I look forward to releasing all of them and of course my EP ‘FLUORESCENT’ in November.
